Randy Ambrosie
Commissioner of the Canadian Football League (CFL) Randy Ambrosie was named 14th Commissioner of the Canadian Football League (CFL) on June 29th and assumed the role on July 4, 2017. He is the first CFL Commissioner to have played in the league since 1996. Randy played Canadian football professionally as an offensive guard for the CFL's Calgary Stampeders, Toronto Argonauts, and Edmonton Eskimos. He was selected with the second overall pick in the 1985 CFL Draft by the Stampeders. Over the course of a nine-season career, he played in 142 professional games and became a Grey Cup champion. Ambrosie played college football at the University of Manitoba, where he earned an Honours Bachelor of Commerce Degree. After he underwent his fifth knee surgery in December 1993 he retired from professional football to pursue his passion for business. Randy had great success as a branch and regional manager at Midland Walwyn and Merrill Lynch Canada. After the sale of Merrill Lynch Canada to CIBC Wood Gundy Randy became the North American head of sales at HSBC Securities and HSBC Brokerage USA. In May 2004, Ambrosie joined AGF Management Ltd. as their head of sales and marketing and In June 2006, he was appointed President of AGF Funds Inc. During his tenure AGF completed a remarkable transition from business contraction to one of the fastest growing companies in Canada. Randy joined MacDougall, MacDougall & MacTier (3Macs) as President & CEO mid 2012. Randy led 3Macs through a period of transformational change culminating in the sale of the firm to Raymond James in 2016. During his tenure at 3Macs the senior leadership team led a program of strategic renewal including a series of tuck-in transactions that contributed to significant growth. The sale of the firm to Raymond James received unanimous support from the 3Macs Board of Directors and Shareholders and positioned Canada’s oldest investment firm for continued success.

Jon Aikman
Co-founder, Nordai
Jon is the co-founder of an artificial intelligence firm, Nordai. Jon was Chief Investment Officer and portfolio manager for an alternative investment firm focused on alternative equity and private debt strategies. Jon is an advisor to fintechs, investment managers, banks and other financial institutions. Jon has completed advanced certificates on artificial intelligence and fintech from MIT, and is completing a MSc in analytics and machine learning from Georgia Tech. Jon is a Chartered Investment Manager and qualified lawyer in Ontario, England & Wales. He sits on the investment committee of endowment and pension fund of Victoria College at the University of Toronto. Jon Aikman is an adjunct faculty at Queen’s University and the University of Toronto. He teaches graduate and executive courses in the Master of Finance, MBA, Master of Management of Artificial Intelligence and Master of International Business programs. He has taught a variety of graduate and executive courses, including alternative investments, fintech for executives, artificial intelligence and finance, hedge funds and broker-dealers, derivatives, philosophy of finance, and corporate finance. Craig has over 20 years of experience in the private sector as a senior executive and leading economist in applied economics, forecasting and public policy. He has previously held positions as Chief Economist at TD Bank Financial Group and Vice President Economic Analysis at C.D. Howe Institute. Most recently, Craig served as Senior Vice-President and Chief Economist at The Conference Board of Canada, producing macroeconomic forecasts for the Canadian national economy as well as provinces, territories, cities and industries. Craig is a passionate public speaker on economic and public policy issues. Craig holds a graduate degree in Economics from the University of Toronto.

John Courtliff

Mr. Courtliff has over 15 years of investment industry experience, beginning his career in investment banking before transitioning to real estate asset and investment management. Pierre duPont

Pierre is a semi-retired entrepreneur, private investor, mentor and an advisor for business owners large and small. With his partners at Cerity Partners, he is also a wealth-strategy counsellor for individuals, tech entrepreneurs and business-owners. For five years before that, Pierre was at Two Sigma Investments, where he invested personal capital in private deals in the US, Mainland China and Israel. Through the 90s and early 00s, Pierre was an entrepreneur, co-founding five software companies resulting in 1.5 IPOs, one acquisition and some spectacular failures. Pierre has been a direct investor into businesses in China and the US, and has worked with individuals, families, and companies in both countries. Throughout his life, Pierre has experienced the residual issues and benefits from family ownership of one of the original twelve (and the longest-lived) companies in the Dow Jones, and the challenges and opportunities from family ownership today of one of the twenty-five largest private companies in America. After receiving his BScE from Princeton in 1982, Pierre started his career at Bolt, Beranek & Newman (BBN) as a research scientist and software engineer in computational linguistics, parallel processing, and statistical data analysis. Today his entrepreneurial efforts are focused on his business-owner and multigen-family advisory practices at Cerity Partners, and on supporting the various tech and non-tech companies he advises or on whose boards he sits.

Dennis E. MacPherson

Mr. Dennis MacPherson has diverse experience in investment fund operations. He began his career with TD Bank Financial Group supporting Greenline Investor Services (now TD Waterhouse Canada), then spent time at AGF Management Ltd., and was then a Director for Unisen Inc. (since bought and exited by Citigroup). He then returned to TD Bank to run the Client Transfer Services area, for all products and business lines of the Wealth Management Division. He then accepted a senior management role in Investment Fund Operations, where he was responsible for transaction processing for all TD brokerage and retail distribution channels, and all TD Mutual Funds products. He was then recruited by Felcom Data Services Inc. as the Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer, responsible for all day-to-day operations, until it was acquired by CIBC Mellon. After ensuring an orderly transition of all Clients, staff and business processes, he made the decision to assume his current role at SGGG. Mr. MacPherson has been an industry leader in process improvement change as a Member or Chair of several Committees and Working Groups, and is currently an active Member of the FundSERV Standards Steering Committee (SSC). He has also participated in several high-profile speaking engagements for IFIC, the CCMA, PMAC and AIMA.

Brian McKenzie

Having made his first investment at the age of 14, Brian has always been passionate about investing. Today, Brian uses that passion not only to invest his client’s wealth, but to develop focused long-term strategies to help them and their families achieve their personal and professional aspirations. He takes great pride in working collaboratively with lawyers, accountants, and other stakeholders to simplify his client’s finances and allow them to focus on what’s most important to them, be it spending time with family, growing their business, or other pursuits. Prior to joining Chronicle, Brian worked with Deloitte LLP as part of their Financial Advisory practice. Before that, Brian held direct investment roles with ArcLight Capital Partners, a Boston-based private equity firm, and Brookfield Asset Management, a leading global investor in real estate, infrastructure, and private equity, where he was based in Toronto. Brian holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the Schulich School of Business at York University. Wes Mills

Wes has 35 years’ experience as an investment professional in finance, portfolio management and asset allocation in both traditional and alternative assets. In the last year he did consulting work on wealth management with a major Credit Union. He was the Chief Investment Officer and Portfolio manager of a private debt portfolio for a leading Exempt Market Dealer for over two years. Prior to that he was with a leading Canadian Bank for over 30 years, spending the bulk of his career in various portfolio management roles ultimately becoming the Chief Investment Officer for the Mutual Fund and Private Client Groups where he was responsible for up to $45bln in assets under management.
He is now the Chief Investment Officer of OKR Financial which primarily lends to companies secured by Government Finance Program (GFP) tax credits as well as traditional commercial bridge financing. Wes works with the credit underwriting team to originate loans as well as the Investment Management group as they service the needs of high net worth clients, family offices and institutional accounts.
Wes graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Commerce and MBA. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.

Subsequent to spending seven years at the fastest growing independent broker in Canada, CanaccordGenuity, in various capacities (research and sales), Justin proceeded to become a partner at a small brokerage named Fraser Mackenzie. Fraser, was rolled up after making 30% return on equity for four years based on market conditions. Justin then pursued a new avenue, joining Bank of Montreal to help build out their Exchange Traded Fund Business. In the six years of his tenure, the team grew the assets from eight billion to over fifty billion dollars, making it a significant growth vehicle for BMO as a whole. Justin is now working to build out MMCAPs brand, assets and help drive business development for the firm.

Vikram Rajagopalan

Zachary Schwartz

Zach is President of ZSC Inc. and manages client relations as well as business development for East West Investment Management (founded by the former Co-Head of Capital Markets & Deputy Chair of CIBC WM). He also works on manager selection and diligence for East West’s Alternative Yield allocations. He continues to advise on life insurance structures for UHNW individuals and family offices. Zach previously worked at a Canadian multi-family office and at a New York-based fintech start-up. Charles Taerk

Mr. Taerk is a co-founder of Faircourt Asset Management Inc. Mr. Taerk has been President and CEO since inception of Faircourt in 2002. From 1999 to 2001, Vice President and Managing Director for Charles Schwab Canada, Co., and a member of its Executive Committee. His responsibilities included leading the development of Investment Banking, Syndication as well as Institutional Research. Prior to that, Mr. Taerk was in the Corporate Finance group at Porthmeor Securities, where he worked from 1996 to 1999, rising to director in 1998. During the period 1994 to 1996, Mr. Taerk founded Faircourt Capital Corporation, a boutique corporate finance advisory business, working with private Canadian companies. Prior to that, Mr. Taerk spent eight years with a major Canadian bank in the mid-market corporate lending area. Mr. Taerk graduated with a Masters from the School of International Affairs at the Graduate School of the University of Pittsburgh in 1988. He received his B.A. from the University of Western Ontario in 1986.
