Rob Binnington, Director - Alternative Investment Management Association (AIMA)

Rob Binnington is the Director in Canada for the Alternative Investment Management Association (AIMA) where he engages with alternative investment managers, institutional and retail investors, service providers, and regulators to further industry in Canada, by promoting locally and abroad. Rob leads investor education, regulatory advocacy and peer-to-peer community engagement for hedge funds, private credit, liquid alternatives, ESG, and digital assets in Canada through events, thought leadership, and committees. Previously, Rob was the Chief Operating Officer for Vertex One Asset Management, a Vancouver-based, multi-billion-dollar alternative investment boutique that specialized in liquid alternatives, hedge funds, and prospectus mutual funds.

 
 

Jason Jogia, Chief Investment Officer, Avenue Living

Jason Jogia serves as the Chief Investment Officer of Avenue Living, one of the largest private real estate owner/operators in Western Canada, as well as Chief Executive Officer of the organization's Opportunity Trust. Avenue Living owns and operates assets worth over $3 billion, including more than 13,000 multi-residential apartment units, 1.8 million square feet of self-storage space, 450,000 square feet of commercial space and over 48,000 acres of agricultural land. Jason is also the co-founder of several private equity ventures.

Jason, who has worked in the real estate investment industry for years, excels at debt and equity analysis, investment strategies, asset management and corporate finance. He has a keen sense of how to break down any goal into achievable operational and financial steps — much like “a walking GANTT chart” — and he's serious about his fiduciary duty to investors and equity partners.

Jason’s strong educational background includes an MBA focused on Finance from the University of Calgary and a Masters in Corporate Finance from SDA Bocconi in Milan, Italy.

Jason is passionate about learning and helping others. He’s an instructor at the University of Calgary, where he teaches real estate investment and development courses at the Haskayne School of Business. He is also honoured to serve on the board of directors for the Calgary Public Library Foundation. An avid traveler, Mr. Jogia has visited over 38 countries and enjoys exploring different cultures and landscapes.

 
 

Nick Kyprianou, President & CEO - RiverRock Mortgage Investment Corporation

Nick is a seasoned executive with over 30 years of experience in the mortgage industry. Prior to founding RiverRock in 2014, Nick was the CEO at Equity Financial Trust. Before joining Equity Financial, Nick was the President and also a director at Home Trust Company for over 18 years, where he was instrumental in the company’s national expansion, mortgage growth and operations.

Nick obtained his degree from McMaster University in 1986, has completed the Executive Program at the Queen’s School of Business as well as the Institute of Corporate Directors Program at the Joseph L. Rotman School of Business.

 
 

Dennis MacPherson, Senior Vice President - SGGG Fund Services

Mr. Dennis MacPherson has diverse experience in investment fund operations. He began his career with TD Bank Financial Group supporting Greenline Investor Services (now TD Waterhouse Canada), then spent time at AGF Management Ltd., and was then a Director for Unisen Inc. (since bought and exited by Citigroup).
He then returned to TD Bank to run the Client Transfer Services area, for all products and business lines of the Wealth Management Division. He then accepted a senior management role in Investment Fund Operations, where he was responsible for transaction processing for all TD brokerage and retail distribution channels, and all TD Mutual Funds products.
He was then recruited by Felcom Data Services Inc. as the Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer, responsible for all day-to-day operations, until it was acquired by CIBC Mellon. After ensuring an orderly transition of all Clients, staff and business processes, he made the decision to assume his current role at SGGG.
Mr. MacPherson has been an industry leader in process improvement change as a Member or Chair of several Committees and Working Groups, and is currently an active Member of the FundSERV Standards Steering Committee (SSC). He has also participated in several high-profile speaking engagements for IFIC, the CCMA, PMAC and AIMA.

 
 

Chris McHaney, Director, Portfolio Manager - BMO Exchange Traded Funds
Chris has more than 16 years of experience in the investment industry and currently serves as portfolio manager for equity-based and derivative-based mandates. This includes Canadian, US, international and emerging market equities, and North American derivatives.
He co-manages various cross-asset portfolios, which include Canadian, US and global fixed income and commodities based investments. In addition, Chris trades foreign exchange contracts and equity options for mandates across the firm.
In his previous role, he was responsible for mutual fund manager monitoring and selection, as well as overseeing the currency hedging program across the mutual fund platform. Chris holds an Honours Business Administration degree from York University’s Schulich School of Business and is a CFA charterholder.

 
 

Dennis Mitchell, CEO & CIO - Starlight Capital

Dennis Mitchell joined Starlight Capital in March 2018 as Chief Executive Officer and Chief Investment Officer. Dennis has over 20 years of experience in the investment industry and has held executive positions with Sprott Asset Management, serving as Senior Vice-President and Senior Portfolio Manager, and Sentry Investments, serving as Executive Vice-President and Chief Investment Officer.
Mr. Mitchell received the Brendan Wood International Canadian TopGun Award in 2009, 2010, and 2011 and the Brendan Wood International 2012 Canadian TopGun Team Leader Award. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and earned a Master of Business Administration from the Schulich School of Business at York University in 2002 and an Honors Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Wilfrid Laurier University in 1998.

Vikram Rajgopalan, Vice President, Retail Sales & National Accounts - Trez Capital
Vikram joined Trez Capital in 2013, bringing with him over 10 years of investment management experience. In his role, Vikram is responsible for working with family offices across Canada and assisting them with the investment allocation decision as it relates to the need for income producing strategies for client portfolios.
Previously, Vikram spent five years as Vice President, Client Relations at a boutique private wealth management firm, working with family offices constructing customized portfolios for high net worth clients. Having lived in 12 different countries and worked in four, he brings a global perspective to investment management.
Vikram graduated from York University with an Honours Bachelors Arts (economics) and is a CFA charter holder.

Neil Ross, Managing Director of National Sales - Ninepoint Partners

As the Managing Director, National Sales at Ninepoint Partners, Neil leads a national team of Product Specialists that consult with Financial Advisors on asset allocation and value added investment strategies.

Prior to joining Ninepoint Partners in September 2018, Neil Ross spent 18 years at a leading Canadian independent asset manager. In progressively senior roles, he helped propel the firm from its inception to $19 billion in assets under management.

Neil brings more than two decades of experience in the financial industry and is a proven leader with an excellent track record of meeting and exceeding sales targets.

Neil graduated with a BA in Political Science from St. Francis Xavier University.

Laura joined BMO GAM in February 2012 as a Vice-President, covering downtown Toronto. She has worked in the financial services industry since 2004 in a variety of roles and possesses product knowledge in managed assets, mutual funds, ETFs and segregated fund products. Scott focuses on the development and maintenance of institutional client and consultant relationships in the US.

Prior to joining the firm, he was a Director at Private Advisors. Earlier in his career, his experience included several years in marketing/talent management, retail management, and academic fundraising.
